Psssst! We want to share a secret with you…. wellness weekend retreats in Sonoma, CA. Often overlooked for its well-known neighbor, the renowned Napa Valley, Sonoma is a hidden gem and is a mere hour from San Francisco.
To kick off our wellness weekend retreat, we first headed to Point Reyes National Seashore where we hiked the magnificent Coast Trail. If you love to hike as we do, this is an amazing place with strenuous to very easy trails. We selected a moderate 6 mile section through redwoods with stellar ocean views and also took a spur trail down to the beach. After our hike and healthy picnic lunch, we made the easy one hour jaunt to Sonoma.
Well Traveled selected the ultra-charming MacArthur Place Inn and Spa for our wellness weekend retreat. This little beauty was voted in 2013 as one of the “World’s Best” US hotels in Conde Nast Traveler’s annual Reader’s Choice Awards and certainly soothed our souls.
Sprawling over seven acres of beautiful gardens dotted with original sculpture, the 19th century historic Inn and Spa welcomes travelers to a peaceful escape from everyday life. Wandering the lovely grounds on flagstone walkways with the fragrant and soothing smells of rosemary and lavender, stress gently slips off your shoulders.
The Inn’s library is where daily complimentary wine and cheese are served in the early evenings, providing a casually elegant gathering spot for guests.
The Inn offers several room categories for you to consider. From standard rooms, king-sized suites to delightfully private cottages, each of the 64 individually designed accommodations feature cozy down comforters and custom linens. For those extra special occasions, we would suggest the Garden Spa Suites. These magical suites offer luxurious furnishings, a romantic wood-burning fireplace, and a home theatre experience. Perhaps, most importantly, these suites feature a private garden with an outdoor rain shower and teak wine soaking tub housed in an intimate teahouse overlooking a calming waterfall. Can you imagine yourself relaxing here?
Well Traveled stayed in this suite highlighted by a fireplace, king-sized bed, original art, hydrotherapy tub and a walk in shower, flat-panel television, and DVD player with six-speaker surround sound. It was the perfect retreat for a rainy spring weekend.
We especially enjoyed the complimentary breakfast served in Saddles, the onsite restaurant that is situated in a restored historic barn. An artful display of fresh fruits, muesli, homemade yummy scones and muffins, bagels with salmon spread greeted us upon our arrival. You may also order breakfast from a comprehensive menu. Saddles is well awarded for their exquisite steak dinners.
Prior to our departure, we indulged in a “Farm to Massage Table” massage treatment at the intimate Garden Spa. This concept offers spa treatments that are based on the fruits, flowers and herbs grown in the Inn’s gardens and uses the finest “single note” essential oils. The inviting atmosphere combined with well trained and talented masseuses gave us a relaxing send off and an excellent end to our weekend wellness retreat.
Well Traveled would be delighted to plan your wellness weekend retreat in your area of interest. A weekend getaway may be just what you need to recharge yourself. Let us help!
